Pendulum
Bronze and Bohemia crystal chandelier, swinging mechanism
120x70cm
2009

Production Holding Textile Hermès. Commission of Gadagne Museums, Lyon (history of the city museum and world marionettes museum).

Pendulum is conceived to underline the multiple temporality of the museum. The chandelier swings regularly from right to left, marking a rythm, the one of the museum, display space of passing time, of past time. Like a clock pendulum it underlines a particular temporality in its perpetual movement.
Splendor merging as a chameleon in its environment, in the courtyard architecture being neither interior space nor exactly outside space, it becomes against nature (the one of lighting function) duration visualisation process.
Identifiable object but with unexpected movement, it invites to build new hypothesis, activates new enquiries.
The physicist and astronomer Galilee would have had observed a swinging chandelier in the Pise cathedral that gave him the beginnings of its theory on pendulums oscillations isochronism. Pendulum replays this contested legend, re-builds it with its contemporary mechanisms, reinstate relation between legend and history.
