The Campo del Cielo (field of sky or heaven) meteorite site was first discovered in 1576 in the Gran Chaco Gualamba region of Argentina, about 500 miles North-Northwest of Buenos Aires. Time of fall estimated by scientists is 4000 to 6000 years ago.
The Campo del Cielo is a polycrystalline coarse octahedrite classified in Group I, 6,68% Nickel,0,43% Cobalt, 0,25% Phosphorus, 87 ppm Gallium, 407 ppm Germanium, 3,6 ppm Iridium. Almost all of the remaining portion of the meteorite is iron.
